PCI Gigabit Adapter for Legacy Systems

The 3Com 3C2000-T is a 32-bit PCI 2.2 network card that adds a single RJ45 port running at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps. It targets administrators maintaining older servers or workstations that lack integrated Gigabit Ethernet but still have an available PCI slot.

128 KB On-Board Buffer and Checksum Offload

The adapter provides 128 KB of packet buffering with TCP, UDP and IP checksum offloads, interrupt coalescing and flow control. Jumbo Frames are supported for larger MTU configurations. Throughput is limited by the 32-bit PCI bus, so sustained Gigabit line rate may not be reached under heavy load.

Broad Legacy Driver Support Included

Drivers cover Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Me, 98 SE and NT 4.0 Workstation, Novell NetWare 5.x and 6.0, and Linux 2.4 with Red Hat 9 and SuSE tested. No Wake-on-LAN capability is present, so remote power-on scenarios require a different solution. Four LEDs show link speed and activity status.

Questions about this item

Will the 32-bit PCI 2.2 slot on my older motherboard run this 3C2000-T at full 1000Mbps speed?

The card is designed for 32-bit PCI 2.2 and negotiates 10, 100 or 1000Mbps automatically, so it will operate at the highest rate the bus and cabling allow.

Which of the four LEDs tells me the link is running at gigabit speed?

The 1000 LED lights when a 1000Mbps connection is active; the 10 and 100 LEDs show the lower speeds, and the activity LED blinks during traffic.

Does the retail box include a low-profile bracket for slim cases?

The product data lists only the PCI adapter itself with its single RJ45 port; any mounting bracket would be a separate purchase.
