  • RoHS compliant and meets ANSI standards for reliable performance

Cold Shrink Insulator for 2-1/0 AWG

The 3M 8-Inch cold shrink insulator fits conductors from 2 to 1/0 AWG. It is built from flexible EPDM rubber and carries a 1 Kilo-Volt rating. The tube suits secondary splices, direct-buried runs and submersible or dig-in repairs.

Operating Range to 90 Deg C

The EPDM rubber withstands a continuous temperature range of -40 to 90 deg C. It seals without heat tools or open flame, so there is no hot-work power draw or noise on site. The installed insulation diameter settles between .4 and .82 Inch.

Replaces Heat Shrink on Live Repairs

This cold shrink tube replaces heat-shrink methods where open flame is unsafe or power for a heat gun is unavailable. The jump is worth it for submersible or direct-buried splices that need a fast, tool-free seal. It is not for buyers who need a higher voltage class or a larger conductor range.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 8-inch cold shrink tubing without a heat gun?

The tubing comes pre-stretched on a removable core; position it over the splice, then unwind the core to let the EPDM rubber shrink onto the conductor — no flame or heat gun required.

Does the EPDM rubber degrade over time in buried or wet locations?

EPDM resists moisture, ozone and UV, so the tubing remains flexible from -40 to 90 deg C for the life of the splice; no periodic replacement is needed.

What is the largest conductor insulation diameter this 2-1/0 AWG tubing will seal?

The tubing seals insulation diameters up to .82 inch; beyond that the shrink ratio cannot maintain a reliable environmental seal.
