3M 5323 Splice Kit

The 3M Resin Compound Splice Kit 5323 provides insulated cable splices for wire sizes from 2 AWG to 250 kcmil. It is intended for electrical professionals who need a reliable, cold-applied joint rated up to 8000 volts.

Thermals and power draw

The kit materials are rated for continuous operation up to 194 degrees Fahrenheit. The resin compound and EPDM rubber mold maintain their seal and insulation properties across this temperature range without active cooling.

Voltage rating decides fit

The splice is certified for 5000 to 8000 volt systems and meets RoHS 2011/65/EU compliance. Installers working outside this voltage window or requiring a different wire range must select an alternative kit.

Questions about this item

How is the cold-shrink sleeve installed and which step is often missed?

Slide the sleeve over the prepared cable, remove the core to let it shrink, and do not skip the solvent cleaning cloths before applying mastic strips and tape.

What parts will need replacement after extended service?

The rubber tape, mastic sealing strips, stress-control tape 2220 and silicone grease lubricant are consumables that degrade with heat cycles.

At what temperature does the resin compound reach its continuous operating limit?

The kit is rated up to 194 degrees F; sustained exposure above this temperature will exceed the material limit.
