Purpose-built NAS power adapter

This ABLEGRID 12V 5A 60W AC adapter is a non-OEM replacement designed for the Synology DS218j two-bay DiskStation. It accepts worldwide AC input from 100 to 240 volts at 50 to 60 hertz and delivers DC power through a barrel tip connector. The unit carries CE, FCC and RoHS certifications and includes over-voltage and over-heat protection.

Build integration and clearance

The adapter connects directly to the DS218j power port and a standard mains outlet, requiring no internal installation or additional cabling beyond the supplied power cord. It frees the NAS from reliance on the original supply and occupies only a single wall socket. Buyers who need a different voltage, a higher current rating or a proprietary connector for another Synology model cannot use this unit.

Included accessories and their impact

The package provides one new AC-DC adapter and one new mains power cable, so the NAS can be powered immediately without sourcing a separate cord. The barrel tip size must match the DS218j input; the notice advises verifying output and tip dimensions before ordering. Users who require an alternative tip style or a longer cable will need to obtain those separately.

Questions about this item

What is the maximum continuous output power before the over-heat protection activates?

The adapter is rated for 60 W continuous output; the built-in over-heat protection will engage if that limit is exceeded.

How much fan noise or heat should I expect when the unit runs 24 hours a day?

The power supply has no fan; it relies on passive convection, so it runs silently and stays warm but not hot under normal loads.

Which Synology NAS models include the matching barrel tip so no extra cable is needed?

The tip fits the Synology DS218j DiskStation; other models may require a different connector.
