D-size NiMH cells for high-drain devices

This pack supplies twelve D-size nickel-metal hydride cells, each rated at 10000 mAh and 1.2 volts. They arrive pre-charged and hold roughly 85 percent of that charge after a year on the shelf. The low self-discharge chemistry makes them practical for equipment that sits idle for months.

Capacity and headroom for sustained loads

A 10000 mAh rating gives long run-times in lanterns, portable radios and other constant-drain gear. The cells support high discharge rates, so they keep voltage stable under heavy load. After roughly 1000 recharge cycles capacity will gradually decline, marking the practical end of service life.

NiMH voltage and charger compatibility

Each cell delivers 1.2 volts, lower than the 1.5 volts of alkaline D cells; some devices with strict voltage cut-offs may shut down early. The pack contains no charger, so a separate NiMH-compatible unit is required. They are not suitable for applications that demand lithium primary chemistry or higher nominal voltage.

Questions about this item

Will these 10000 mAh D cells run in the same torch that used alkalines?

Yes, each cell supplies 1.2 volts and fits any device designed for standard D batteries, so the torch will operate normally.

How can I verify the 85% charge retention claim after the batteries have sat for a year?

Measure the open-circuit voltage with a multimeter; a reading near 1.2 V per cell after 12 months of storage indicates the low self-discharge specification is holding.

The pack says 12 cells on 6 cards of 2 — are there any chargers or adapters included?

Only the 12 pre-charged NiMH cells on the six cards are supplied; a compatible NiMH charger must be purchased separately.
