What the Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is

The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is a convertible laptop with a 14.0 inch IPS touchscreen that runs Chrome OS. It uses an Ultra 5 115U processor with 8 cores and a 4.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 8 GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 256 GB NVMe SSD for storage.

Installation and common issues

Chrome OS handles driver and update management automatically, so there is no manual driver installation required. The memory is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded after purchase. The 256 GB NVMe drive may be replaceable, but opening the chassis could affect the manufacturer seal applied by the technician who configured the unit.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This device suits people who want a lightweight 3.2 lb convertible with a 16:10 touchscreen, Thunderbolt 4 ports and all-day battery life from a 53 Whr cell. It is not for buyers who need more than 8 GB of RAM, a discrete GPU, user-replaceable storage or a larger display.
