Custom workstation for CAD and modelling

This desktop pairs a 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9950X running at 4.3 GHz with 192 GB of DDR5 memory and an Nvidia RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell GPU. It targets engineers and designers who need certified drivers for SolidWorks and similar applications. The 8 TB of NVMe storage and 10 TB hard drive keep large assemblies local.

Liquid CPU cooler and quiet case airflow

A 360 mm quiet-edition AIO handles the processor while the Antec P10 FLUX case uses sound-dampening panels and four 120 mm fans plus a 140 mm PSU fan. The 850 W 80 PLUS Bronze supply includes over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power and short-circuit protection. Windows 11 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Gigabyte X870 EAGLE connectivity and storage bays

The motherboard rear I/O provides two USB4 Type-C ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 and four USB 2.0 ports. Internal headers add a USB Type-C, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 and four USB 2.0 connections plus four SATA 6 Gb/s and three M.2 slots. The case offers one external 5.25 inch bay, three internal 3.5 inch bays and three 2.5 inch mounts.

Questions about this item

How is the 360 mm liquid cooler mounted to the AM5 socket, and what step is often missed?

The cooler uses the standard AM5 backplate and four spring-loaded screws; the step people skip is removing the protective film from the cold-plate before tightening, which leaves an air gap and raises CPU temperatures.

Which component will need replacement first under heavy workloads?

The 850 W Bronze PSU's electrolytic capacitors age faster than the Samsung 990 PRO SSDs or the 10 TB HDD, so plan to swap the power supply after several years of sustained 16-core, 16 GB GPU loads.

What thermal limit appears first during prolonged all-core rendering?

The Ryzen 9 9950X hits its 95 °C junction ceiling before the 360 mm radiator saturates, causing the CPU to throttle from 5.70 GHz boost clocks to protect itself.
