Workstation for CAD and modelling

This tower workstation is built around a 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9950X processor and an Nvidia RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell GPU with 16GB memory. It targets engineers and designers who need certified driver stability for SolidWorks, CAM and CAE workflows. The system ships with Windows 11 Pro and 128GB of DDR5 installed.

PCIe 4.0 x4 sets the NVMe ceiling

The two 4TB Samsung 990 PRO drives operate over a PCIe 4.0 x4 link, so sequential reads top out at 7450 MB/s and writes at 6900 MB/s. SATA 6Gb/s ports cap mechanical drive throughput lower. Rear USB4 ports reach 40Gbps while USB 10Gbps and 5Gbps headers provide additional bandwidth tiers.

Verify case clearance and PSU headroom

The Antec P20 mid-tower measures 469 x 220 x 490 mm and fits E-ATX boards; confirm your workspace accommodates those dimensions. The Thermaltake Smart 850W 80 PLUS Bronze unit powers the build; check that future GPU upgrades stay within its rated output. Four DDR5 slots total allow expansion to 192GB if required.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 8TB NVMe or the 10TB hard drive for my main working files?

Use the 8TB NVMe array (two 4TB Samsung 990 PRO drives at up to 7450 MB/s read) for active projects and the 10TB hard drive for bulk archives.

What does the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X at 4.3 GHz actually deliver in a real workstation?

The CPU runs 16 cores and 32 threads with a 5.70 GHz boost and 64 MB L3 cache, cooled by a 360 mm liquid loop for sustained multi-threaded loads.

Which rear USB ports on the Prime X870-P motherboard support the fastest external storage?

Two USB4 Type-C ports run at 40Gbps, alongside one USB 10Gbps and three USB 5Gbps ports for high-speed peripherals.
