Target Workstation

This business desktop centres on a 24-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9960X processor running at a 4.2GHz base frequency with 48 threads. It ships with 256GB of DDR5 ECC memory, a 1TB NVMe SSD and a 10TB SATA hard drive. The Nvidia RTX 4500 Blackwell GPU adds 32GB of video memory for professional visualisation workloads. Windows 11 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed on the tower platform.

Thermals And Power

A 360mm quiet-edition liquid cooler handles the CPU while the Corsair 5000D Frame case provides front and rear 120mm airflow. The Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W 80 PLUS Gold supply uses a 140mm fan rated for low noise and Japanese main capacitors. Protections include over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power and short-circuit safeguards. The system draws from a single 1200W source rated at 80 PLUS Gold efficiency.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The 24-core Threadripper 9960X can boost up to 5.3GHz with 128MB of L3 cache during extended compute tasks. Liquid cooling maintains stable temperatures for the CPU while the GPU operates within its 32GB frame buffer for long rendering or simulation sessions. The 1TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe drive sustains sequential reads up to 7450 MB/sec and writes up to 6900 MB/sec. The 10TB hard drive adds 256MB cache for bulk storage throughput.

Questions about this item

How is the 360 mm liquid cooler installed on the sTR5 socket, and what step do people often miss?

Mount the supplied sTR5 bracket onto the motherboard back-plate, apply thermal paste evenly across the 24-core heat-spreader, then secure the cold-plate with the four captive screws in a cross pattern; the step most builders skip is removing the protective film from the cold-plate before tightening.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1200 W 80 PLUS Gold PSU need later?

The 140 mm fan bearings are the only wear item; plan to clean dust from the intake grill every 6–12 months and replace the fan if bearing noise appears, while the Japanese main capacitors are rated for the unit’s full design life.

What thermal limit appears first on the Threadripper 9960X under sustained all-core load?

The 24-core CPU targets a 5.3 GHz boost but will throttle to its 4.2 GHz base clock once the 360 mm AIO saturates, so the coolant temperature delta is the first hard limit during prolonged render or compute runs.
