24-Core Workstation for Heavy Compute

This tower desktop pairs a 24-core Threadripper 9960X with 256GB of DDR5 ECC memory and an RTX 5080 16GB GPU. It targets professionals who run multi-threaded simulations, large-model rendering or AI workloads that demand high core counts and GPU acceleration. The sTR5 platform provides ample PCIe lanes for the included NVMe SSD and 10TB hard drive. Buyers who need a compact form factor or a lower-core-count CPU should look elsewhere.

Liquid Cooling and 1200W Gold Power

A 360mm quiet-edition AIO cooler handles the Threadripper 9960X, which reaches up to 5.3GHz boost across 24 cores and 48 threads. The Thermaltake 1200W 80 Plus Gold supply uses Japanese capacitors and a 140mm low-noise fan, delivering stable power with over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power and short-circuit protection. Case airflow relies on front and rear 120mm fans inside the Corsair 5000D Frame chassis.

Connectivity and Storage Ready to Expand

The Gigabyte TRX50 AERO D motherboard adds rear USB4 Type-C ports, 10GbE Marvell AQtion LAN, plus multiple USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Gen 1 connections. Internally it offers four M.2 slots, eight SATA 6Gbps ports and front-panel USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C. The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO delivers 7450 MB/s reads and 6900 MB/s writes, while the 10TB SATA drive provides bulk capacity. Realtek ALC4080 and ALC897 codecs supply 7.1-channel audio.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 360 mm liquid cooler in the Corsair 5000D Frame case, and what step is often missed?

Mount the 360 mm radiator to the top or front rails using the included brackets, then connect the pump header to the CPU_FAN header on the Gigabyte TRX50 AERO D motherboard; the step often missed is plugging the pump tach cable into that specific header so the BIOS can monitor flow.

What maintenance or replacement will the 10 TB SATA hard drive with 256 MB cache need later?

The 10 TB SATA 6 Gb/s drive is a mechanical component; plan to replace it after three to five years of continuous workloads or if SMART attributes report reallocated sectors, and keep the 2 TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD as the primary boot volume.

What thermal limit appears first when the 24-core Threadripper 9960X and RTX 5080 run sustained loads?

The 360 mm liquid loop’s coolant temperature will rise until the radiator fans hit their maximum 140 mm speed; once coolant delta stabilises, the CPU will throttle at its 100 °C junction target before the 1200 W 80 PLUS Gold PSU reaches its over-temperature protection.
