Hands-Free Navigation Tool

The Airwheel CAV-30 is a 30mm ball compass designed for hands-free direction finding during outdoor activities. Its liquid-filled capsule provides 360-degree orientation without requiring a level hold. Weighing .032 kilograms, the white plastic and acrylic housing measures 2.98 by 1.54 by .1 inches. A built-in clip secures it to backpacks or zipper pulls for immediate access.

Hikers and Riders Seeking Quick Reference

This compass suits users who need to check bearings while holding maps, handlebars or trekking poles. The vertical and horizontal dials support both hiking and riding postures. Buyers who require declination adjustment, a sighting mirror or luminous markings for night use should look at dedicated baseplate or lensatic models instead. The single-unit package contains no lanyard or additional mounting hardware.

Dual-Dial Layout Enables Two Reading Modes

An inner orange dial gives a standard north reference for vertical viewing. An outer white dial reverses the scale for horizontal direction-of-travel reading while riding. Four fixed aiming points around the capsule assist with quick alignment. The liquid damping and shakeproof construction keep the needle steady during movement. No software, batteries or calibration tools are included.

Questions about this item

Does the compass need a flat surface or a level mount to give an accurate reading?

No — the 30 mm liquid-filled capsule floats freely and provides 360° orientation at any angle, so it works while clipped to a pack strap or held in hand.

Will the shock-resistant acrylic housing survive being knocked against rocks or bike frames during outdoor use?

Yes, the housing is rated shakeproof and shock resistant, and the liquid-filled design dampens impact on the floating dial.

How do I confirm the compass is pointing correctly once I clip it on?

Rotate the ball until the orange inner dial aligns with north; the four surrounding aiming points then show your direction of travel at a glance.
