What this adapter does

The Intel Wireless-AC 9260 is an M.2 2230 Key E module that adds dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 to laptops, mini consoles or all-in-one PCs. It is built for users who need faster wireless throughput and modern Bluetooth connectivity in a compact slot.

Interface and bandwidth limits

The card uses a 160 MHz channel on 5 GHz to reach its peak rate of 1.73 Gbps, while 2.4 GHz tops out at 300 Mbps. Performance depends on router support for 160 MHz and MU-MIMO; older access points or narrow channels will reduce real-world speed. It does not fit Lenovo laptops or systems that require a CNVi interface such as the 9560.

Capacity and headroom

Two spatial streams and downlink MU-MIMO keep 4K streaming, online gaming and large file transfers steady when the network is uncongested. In dense environments or at the edge of 5 GHz coverage the link drops back to 2.4 GHz at 300 Mbps, which can become the bottleneck for sustained high-throughput tasks.

Questions about this item

Which version of the AJMRTC Intel Wireless-AC 9260 should I choose for my laptop?

Select the M.2 2230 Key E version if your laptop has an M.2 2230 Key E slot and runs Windows 10/11 64-bit, Linux or Chrome OS.

What does the 1.73Gbps figure mean when the card is installed in my machine?

The 1.73Gbps is the maximum PHY rate on 5 GHz using a 160 MHz channel with 2x2 MU-MIMO; real-world throughput will be lower and depends on router support and signal conditions.

What interface does the card use and what speed does it cap in practice?

It uses an M.2 2230 Key E interface carrying PCIe for Wi-Fi and USB for Bluetooth 5.0; the Wi-Fi link is capped at 1.73Gbps (5 GHz, 160 MHz) and 300Mbps (2.4 GHz).
