What this cabinet is and who it suits

The Alera 17452 is a two-drawer lateral file cabinet finished in light grey. It measures 36 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 28 inches high, and weighs 131 pounds. The unit ships new and is designed for office or home-office filing where letter- and legal-size hanging folders are used side-to-side.

Check your space and floor before ordering

Verify you have at least 36 inches of clear width, 18 inches of depth and 28 inches of height for the cabinet footprint. Ensure the floor can support 131 pounds and is level enough for the four adjustable glides to stabilise the unit. Confirm the intended location allows each drawer to extend fully without striking walls or other furniture.

How it fits into an office layout

The anti-tipping interlock lets only one drawer open at a time, so the cabinet remains stable even when fully loaded. Full-extension steel ball-bearing slides give complete access to files at the back of each drawer. The removable-core lock with two keys secures contents, while the recessed radius-edge pulls keep the front profile clean for tight aisles or adjacent desks.

Questions about this item

What comes with the Alera 17452 lateral file and is anything else needed to use it?

The cabinet includes two drawers with side-to-side hang rails for letter or legal hanging files, full-extension steel ball-bearing slides, a single core-removable lock with two keys, and four adjustable leveling glides. No extra hardware is required for basic filing.

Should I choose the 36-inch width or a narrower model for my office?

The 36-inch drawer width accepts both letter and legal hanging files side to side, while narrower lateral files typically hold only letter size. Pick the 36-inch version if you need legal capacity in a two-drawer footprint.

How does the 131 lb weight affect placement and stability once the cabinet is loaded?

At 131 lb empty, the unit is stable enough to resist tipping when a fully loaded drawer opens, and the anti-tip interlock prevents a second drawer from opening simultaneously. The adjustable glides compensate for uneven floors without anchoring.
