Four-port USB 2.0 extender over Cat 5e

The Alphacool Icron Ranger 2304 extends four USB 2.0 ports up to 100 meters using a single Cat 5e cable. It delivers true plug-and-play operation at 480Mbps without requiring any software drivers. The integrated four-port hub removes the need for a separate hub device. It suits users who need remote USB connectivity in industrial, educational or AV environments.

ExtremeUSB and updated ASIC design

ExtremeUSB technology enables driverless compatibility with all leading operating systems and supports USB 3.0, 2.0 and 1.1 peripherals at USB 2.0 speeds. The latest ASIC-based design pairs an updated Cypress USB hub with a Realtek internal Ethernet PHY for reliable signal transmission. Keyboards, webcams, mice, flash drives and interactive whiteboards all function across the dedicated Cat 5e link. No additional software or configuration is required.

Four devices at 480Mbps over 100 meters

The extender comfortably handles four simultaneous USB 2.0 devices at full 480Mbps bandwidth across the 100 meter Cat 5e run. It runs out when total traffic exceeds the single 480Mbps upstream link or when cable length surpasses the 100 meter Cat 5e specification. USB 3.0 peripherals operate only at USB 2.0 speeds, so high-throughput storage or video devices will not reach their native performance.

Questions about this item

Will the four-port hub or the Cat 5e link need periodic replacement?

The Ranger 2304 uses solid-state ASIC and Cypress hub components with no moving parts, so no scheduled replacement is required.

What limits throughput first when the extender runs continuously at 100 meters?

The USB 2.0 specification caps sustained data at 480 Mbps, and the Cat 5e link is rated for the full 100 meter distance, so the USB layer is the bottleneck.

How much heat or noise does the local and remote unit produce during all-day operation?

Both units are passively cooled with no fans, so they generate minimal heat and zero audible noise under continuous use.
