Diffusion fabric for DIY light modifiers

This pre-cut nylon silk fabric is supplied as a two-yard length sixty inches wide with unfinished edges. It is intended for photographers and videographers who build their own softboxes or light tents. The material carries a non-yellowing coating and reduces light by about fifteen f-stops. Buyers needing a finished hem or a different width will need another solution.

Thermals noise and power draw

The fabric is a passive textile with no electrical components so it produces no heat and no noise. It draws no power and adds no thermal load to a lighting setup. The non-yellowing coating is designed to maintain consistent diffusion over time. There are no moving parts or electronics to consider.

Build fit and requirements

The sheet measures sixty inches wide by two yards long and arrives with unfinished edges on all four sides. It can be cut or sewn to fit custom frames or large diffusion panels. No mounting hardware or framing is included so the builder must supply their own structure. The fabric is compatible with strobe and continuous light sources.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the 60-inch-wide nylon silk fabric to a softbox frame without finished edges?

The fabric arrives with unfinished edges on all four sides, so you must sew a sleeve, add grommets, or use hook-and-loop tape to secure it to the frame; the step most DIY builders miss is leaving enough extra material for the chosen fastening method before cutting.

Will the non-yellowing coating on this diffusion fabric degrade and require replacement over time?

The coating is formulated to resist yellowing, so the fabric itself does not have a scheduled replacement interval; only physical damage such as tears or heavy staining would make a new piece necessary.

At what point does the 15 f-stop light reduction become the limiting factor when stacking multiple layers for heavier diffusion?

Each layer cuts roughly 15 f-stops, so adding a second layer pushes total reduction beyond what most continuous lights can overcome, making output the first practical limit under sustained use.
