  • Duplex scanning captures both sides automatically
  • 600 dpi optical resolution delivers sharp detail
  • 48-bit colour depth reproduces accurate hues
  • USB 2.0 interface connects to most PCs
  • Portable 10.6 oz design fits tight spaces

Compact A6 sheetfed scanner

The Ambir DocketPort 687 is a portable sheetfed scanner that captures duplex images at 600 dpi through a USB 2.0 connection. It handles documents up to 4.13 by 5.83 inches and weighs 10.6 ounces in a 2.8 by 8 by 1.8 inch frame. Color output reaches 48-bit depth with 16.7 million colours.

Mobile professionals scanning cards and small pages

This unit suits users who need to digitise business cards, plastic cards or photos while travelling or working at a cramped desk. Its manual feed and A6 limit mean it cannot handle letter, A4 or continuous multi-page batches. Buyers who want unattended volume scanning should look at something else.

600 dpi optical resolution

The single specification that decides fit is the 600 dpi optical resolution paired with the A6 maximum document size. If the workflow requires higher detail or larger pages this scanner will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

What does the USB 2.0 interface mean for this scanner?

The DP687 connects through a USB 2.0 port for both power and data, so no external adapter is needed.

What physical space does the DocketPort 687 require?

It measures 2.8 in wide, 8 in deep and 1.8 in high, weighing 10.6 oz, so it fits on a small desk or in a laptop bag.

How is the scanner set up and what step is often missed?

Install the driver on Windows XP, 2000, 2003 or Vista before plugging in the USB cable; skipping the driver install prevents the device from being recognised.
