AMT Northrop SM-62 Snark 1/48 Scale Kit

This AMT kit reproduces the Northrop SM-62 Snark intercontinental guided missile in 1/48 scale with 207 detailed parts. It includes a removable J57 turbojet engine, two booster rockets, two fuel tanks, a tractor and trailer, plus an adjustable stair lift on a launch platform. Nine crew figures and colorful decal artwork complete the set. Paint and cement are required but not included.

For collectors and hobbyists who enjoy Cold War

Builders seeking a detailed display model of a historic strategic weapon will appreciate the true-to-scale molding and vintage-style packaging. The kit demands patience and modelling experience due to its Skill 2 rating and 207 parts. Modellers who prefer snap-fit assembly or pre-painted models should look elsewhere. Anyone unwilling to supply their own paint and cement cannot complete this kit.

Sustained assembly over multiple sessions

The large part count and complex sub-assemblies such as the engine, launch platform and stair lift reward steady, methodical work rather than a single sitting. White-molded plastic allows consistent priming and painting across all components. The removable engine and adjustable stair lift add mechanical interest during construction. Completing the missile, tractor, trailer and figures produces a finished model approximately 17.5 inches long with a 10.75-inch wingspan.

Questions about this item

What paint and cement do I need to finish the 1/48 scale Northrop SM-62 Snark kit?

The kit requires modelling paint and plastic cement, which are not included in the box; choose colours that match the missile and launch platform.

Will the 207 parts fit with older AMT missile kits I already have?

This is a standalone 1/48 scale kit; parts are designed only for this Snark missile, tractor, trailer and launch platform.

How can I confirm the removable J57 turbojet engine is installed correctly?

The engine should seat securely in the missile fuselage and be removable for display; the finished model measures approximately 17.5 inches long with a 10.75 inch wingspan.
