USB 3.0 Type-A extension kit

This two-pack provides a pair of 6 ft USB 3.0 male-to-female cables in blue and purple. Each extender adds reach for gamepads, keyboards, webcams, mice, cameras, flash drives, hard drives, consoles and other Type-A peripherals. The connectors are nickel-plated and housed in aluminium alloy shells with a nylon-braided jacket. They are suited to home, office or gaming setups that need extra length.

Replaces short or worn Type-A cables

Use these extenders when the original device cable is too short to reach a rear port or when the host socket sees frequent plug cycles. The 5 Gbps link is ten times faster than USB 2.0, so the upgrade is worthwhile for external drives, high-resolution webcams or any peripheral that benefits from the higher throughput. Backwards compatibility keeps older 2.0 and 1.1 gear working without change.

Sustained transfer and charging behaviour

The cable supports up to 2 A charging current alongside 5 Gbps data, maintaining both functions over the full 6 ft run. Reinforced joints and the braided nylon sheath resist bending fatigue during repeated repositioning. Signal integrity is preserved by the shielded construction, so bulk file backups and continuous peripheral operation remain stable without the dropouts seen on thinner, unshielded leads.

Questions about this item

Does the 6 ft length and Type A male-to-female connectors reach a rear desktop port from a desk?

Yes, the 6 ft cable has a USB Type A male plug for the host and a Type A female port for your peripheral, giving enough slack to route behind a tower.

Is any driver or software needed to get the 5 Gbps link working?

No driver is required; the cable is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1, so the 5 Gbps connection negotiates automatically when both ends support USB 3.0.

When should the braided nylon cable be replaced?

Replace it if the braid frays, the nickel-plated connectors become loose, or data drops to USB 2.0 speeds despite both devices supporting USB 3.0.
