USB 3.0 A-Male to A-Female extension
This 5 ft cable extends the reach of USB peripherals such as flash drives, hard drives, printers, keyboards and mice from behind a desk or across a room. It connects a USB 3.0 Type A male plug to a Type A female port. No drivers are required on Windows, Mac OS, Linux or Chrome OS. The cable is rated for SuperSpeed USB 3.0.
Throughput and compatibility limits
When used with a USB 3.0 host and device the cable supports up to 5 Gbps, which is 10x the 480 Mbps of USB 2.0. It remains backwards compatible with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 devices. The 22/28 AWG construction uses double foil shielding and a twisted-pair layout for stable transmission. Actual speed depends on the host and peripheral capabilities.
Male-to-female Type A connector format
This extension only works where a USB Type A male port is available and a Type A female connection is needed. It cannot connect two host ports directly or adapt to Type C, Micro-B or other connector shapes. Buyers needing a different connector gender or form factor must choose a different cable.

Questions about this item
Should I choose a 22 AWG or 28 AWG cable for my external hard drive?
The cable uses 22/28 AWG construction, with the thicker 22 AWG power lines supporting bus-powered drives and the 28 AWG data pairs carrying SuperSpeed signals up to 5 Gbps.
What does the 5 Gbps rating mean when I plug this into my laptop?
With a USB 3.0 host and device you can expect up to 5 Gbps throughput, roughly ten times the 480 Mbps limit of USB 2.0, so large file transfers complete much faster.
Does the USB 3.0 Type-A male to female connection limit speed with older ports?
The cable is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 ports, but the 5 Gbps rate is only achieved when both host and device support USB 3.0.
