What this iPad Air is for

The Apple iPad Air 10.9 5th Gen 64GB Purple tablet is a 2022 model built around the Apple M1 chipset with an 8-core processor and 8GB of memory. It suits students, mobile professionals and creatives who want a lightweight iOS 15.4 device upgradeable to iOS 17 for everyday productivity, media consumption and light content creation. Its 10.9-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD shows 1640 x 2360 resolution behind scratch-resistant glass with an oleophobic coating.

Sustained performance with the M1 chip

The M1 processor and 8GB unified memory keep the system responsive during extended multitasking, long video-editing sessions or repeated compile cycles without the throttling seen in phone-class silicon. Thermal headroom lets the 8-core CPU and integrated GPU hold higher clocks for minutes at a time. Storage stays at 64GB, so large project libraries will need cloud or external drives. Bluetooth 5.0 maintains stable peripheral links throughout the day.

Check your workflow before ordering

Buyers who need cellular connectivity should note this unit is Wi-Fi only. The single USB Type-C 3.1 Gen2 port handles charging, data and video out, so a hub may be required for simultaneous accessories. Photographers wanting a dedicated ultra-wide rear lens will find only the 12MP f/1.8 wide camera and a 12MP f/2.4 front ultrawide. NFC is not supported.

Questions about this item

How much heat or fan noise does the Apple M1 chip produce when the iPad Air runs all day?

The Apple M1 chip runs without a fan, so the iPad Air stays silent and only warm to the touch during sustained workloads.

What cables or adapters must I already own to connect this iPad Air to a monitor or external drive?

The USB Type-C 3.1 Gen2 port carries video and data, so a USB-C to HDMI or USB-C hub is all that is required.

Will my existing Lightning headphones and older Apple Pencil work with this iPad Air?

The Lightning port is not present; audio and charging use USB-C, and only the second-generation Apple Pencil attaches magnetically for pairing and charging.
