9.7-inch iPad Air for everyday use

The first-generation iPad Air combines a 9.7-inch touch display with an Apple A7 dual-core processor running at 1.4GHz and 1GB of memory. It ships with 16GB of flash storage and runs iOS out of the box. Connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, plus a Lightning port for charging and accessories. A 5-megapixel rear iSight camera and a 1.2-megapixel front FaceTime HD camera support 720p video calls.

Suits light media and web tasks.

This tablet fits users who mainly stream video, browse the web, check email or play casual games on a portable 9.7-inch screen. The 1GB memory and 16GB storage limit the number of apps and files you can keep simultaneously. Buyers who need more storage for large media libraries or who run memory-intensive creative apps should look at a device with higher capacity and more RAM.

Steady performance for single-app workflows

Under sustained use the A7 processor maintains smooth operation for single foreground tasks such as video playback or document editing. Switching between several open apps will trigger more frequent reloads because the 1GB memory fills quickly. The flash storage has no moving parts, so there is no thermal throttling from a spinning drive during extended sessions.

Questions about this item

Does the 16 GB iPad Air 1st Gen need a separate charger and Lightning cable to power up?

Yes, you will need a USB power adapter and a Lightning cable; the tablet charges through its Lightning port.

Can I pair my existing Bluetooth 4.0 keyboard with this iPad Air?

The tablet supports Bluetooth 4.0, so a keyboard using that version will connect without extra hardware.

How do I confirm the 5 MP iSight camera is working after setup?

Open the Camera app, switch to the rear camera and take a test photo; a clear image shows the 5 MP sensor is functioning.
