What this iPad Air 2 is and who it suits

The Apple iPad Air 2 is a 9.7 inch tablet with 16 GB of built-in storage and a Retina display running at 2048 by 1536 resolution. It ships with iOS 8 and uses an A8X chip with 64-bit architecture plus an M8 motion coprocessor. An 8 MP iSight camera and a FaceTime HD camera handle photos and calls. This model includes Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and cellular support for Verizon networks. It is aimed at users who want a slim tablet for media, web browsing and light productivity on the go.

What to verify before ordering

This unit is the Verizon cellular variant, so you will need an active Verizon data plan to use mobile connectivity. The 16 GB capacity cannot be expanded, so confirm that amount is enough for your apps, photos and offline media. The tablet ships with iOS 8; check that any critical apps you rely on still support that operating system version. No accessories are mentioned in the data, so plan to source a charger or case separately if required.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The A8X chip with 64-bit architecture and M8 motion coprocessor is passively cooled, so the device runs silently during typical tasks such as video playback, web browsing or document editing. Under sustained load the aluminium chassis may become warm to the touch, which is normal for a fanless design. Battery life will vary with screen brightness, cellular signal strength and workload, but the hardware is engineered for all-day mixed use on a single charge.

Questions about this item

Does the 16 GB iPad Air 2 come with a charger and cable in the box?

The tablet is supplied new in its original packaging, which includes the Apple power adapter and Lightning-to-USB cable needed for charging and syncing.

Should I choose the 16 GB Wi-Fi + 4G Verizon model or look for a larger capacity?

The 16 GB version suits light use such as web browsing, email and streaming; if you plan to store many apps, photos or offline video, a higher-capacity model will give more room.

How does the 2048 x 1536 Retina display look in daily use on the 9.7" screen?

The 2048 x 1536 resolution on a 9.7-inch panel delivers sharp text and detailed images, making reading, photo editing and video playback clear at normal viewing distances.
