iPad Air 2 128 GB Space Gray

The iPad Air 2 A1566 is a 9.7 inch WiFi tablet with 128 GB of storage and 2 GB of RAM. It runs iOS on a Retina Display and ships in Space Gray. The unit is aimed at students, commuters and light productivity users who want a thin, portable slate for reading, streaming and everyday apps. Buyers who need cellular connectivity, expandable storage or a modern USB-C port should look elsewhere.

Thermals noise and power

The tablet uses a lithium-ion battery and has no active cooling, so it runs silently under normal workloads such as web browsing, video playback and document editing. The aluminium chassis acts as a passive heat spreader, keeping surface temperatures comfortable during extended use. Power draw is low enough that the included UL approved adapter recharges the battery quickly from a standard wall outlet.

Upgrade path

This model replaces the original iPad Air and earlier 9.7 inch iPads that offered less storage or slower WiFi. The jump is worth it if you need the 128 GB capacity for offline media libraries or larger app collections. It does not suit users who require Apple Pencil support, a laminated display or the faster processors found in later iPad Air generations.

Questions about this item

How do I set up the iPad Air 2 A1566 for the first time, and what step is commonly missed?

Turn on the device, connect to a Wi-Fi network, then sign in with your Apple ID; the step often skipped is restoring from an iCloud or computer backup before completing setup.

What maintenance will the 128GB iPad Air 2 need over time, and which part cannot be swapped by the user?

Keep iOS updated and free up storage when full; the internal lithium-ion battery is not user-replaceable and requires authorised service when its health degrades.

Which limit appears first during extended use of the 9.7" Retina Display model with 2GB memory?

The 2GB RAM fills quickly with multiple apps or browser tabs, causing reloads and slower multitasking before storage or thermal limits are reached.
