Sealing fitting blocks gases and flames in hazardous conduit systems with 40% fill capacity and 8.000 length
This malleable iron sealing fitting connects 1-1/2" FNPT to 1-1/2" MNPT conduit ends. It is rated for Class I Division 1 and 2 Groups B C D and Class II Division 1 and 2 Groups E F G hazardous locations. The fitting prevents the passage of gases vapors or flames between conduit system sections. It suits vertical or horizontal installation in industrial electrical systems.
Standard couplings do not block flame or gas migration in classified areas. This fitting replaces them when code requires a seal at 40% fill capacity. The jump is worth it when running IMC or RMC conduit through boundaries between hazardous and non-hazardous zones. It meets the sealing requirement without changing the conduit trade size.
Thread the FNPT end onto the conduit and the MNPT end into the mating fitting or hub. Apply approved sealing compound inside the fitting chamber after conductors are pulled. The 8.000 inch overall length requires adequate straight clearance in the run. The most common error is underfilling the sealing compound which voids the hazardous location rating.

The sealing fitting has an overall length of 6-1/4 inches and a listed length specification of 8.000 inches, so allow at least that much straight run between conduit ends.
Start the male NPT end into the female hub of the adjacent conduit body, then thread the female end onto the male conduit nipple; reversing the order makes alignment difficult in tight hazardous-location runs.
Replace the sealing compound whenever the fitting is disassembled for inspection or conduit modification, because the original fill cannot be reused once disturbed.
