Aluminum 90-degree elbow joins 1/2-inch IMC conduit with male threads and hazardous-location rating
This Appleton Electric ELM90-50-A fitting joins two lengths of 1/2-inch IMC or threaded rigid conduit at a right angle. Its male-to-male NPT threads accept conduit on both ends without couplings. Aluminium construction resists corrosion in damp or chemical atmospheres. The fitting carries Class I Division 1 and 2 ratings for Groups A through D, plus Class II and III ratings for Groups E through G.
The single specification that decides fit is the 1/2-inch trade size with male NPT threads on both ports. It matches only conduit and fittings stamped for the same trade size and thread standard. Using a different trade size or a non-threaded coupling system will prevent assembly and void the hazardous-location rating.
Installation requires hand-threading each end into the conduit until tight, then securing with a wrench for the final turns. The short 1 1/2-inch overall length leaves little leverage space in tight boxes, so a stubby wrench helps. The most common error is cross-threading the aluminium threads when starting by hand; always turn slowly for the first few rotations.

The 90-degree elbow changes conduit direction by a right angle, letting IMC or threaded RMC run along walls or into boxes without sharp kinks that could damage conductors.
Each end has a 1/2-inch MNPT thread that screws directly into threaded IMC, rigid conduit or a compatible fitting, forming a mechanically secure and electrically continuous joint.
The fitting measures 1 1/2 inches overall length, so allow at least that much straight run plus wrench space on each threaded end for installation.
