Vertical sealing fitting with drain prevents gases and flames from passing between conduit sections in hazardous locations
The Appleton EYD-56 is a vertical sealing fitting designed for 1-1/2 inch trade size conduit systems. It carries hazardous-location ratings for Class I Division 1 and 2 Groups C and D, Class II Division 1 and 2 Groups E, F and G, and Class III. The fitting prevents passage of gases, vapors or flames between conduit sections in vertical orientation.
A built-in drain allows condensation or moisture to exit the sealed joint, reducing corrosion risk in humid or outdoor hazardous areas. The iron body with silver finish mates with IMC and RMC conduit types through 1-1/2 in FNPT by 1-1/2 in MNPT threads. This combination of drain and thread configuration replaces the need for separate drainage fittings.
Installers must ensure full thread engagement on both the female and male NPT ends to maintain the hazardous-location seal. The fitting is strictly for vertical conduit runs; horizontal installation voids the rating and can trap liquid against the seal. Over-tightening iron threads can crack the fitting body, so a calibrated wrench is recommended.

The fitting is designed to prevent passage of gases, vapors or flames between conduit sections; the sealing compound installed at commissioning is intended to remain effective for the life of the installation.
The iron body is rated for Class I Division 1 and 2 Groups C D and Class II Division 1 and 2 Groups E F G; exceeding those atmosphere classifications is the limiting factor.
As a passive iron sealing fitting with no moving parts or electrical components, it produces no heat and no audible noise during continuous vertical operation.
