What must I already own for the EAE42718019 capacitor to function in my unit?

You need a compatible appliance — specifically a Comfort-Aire BG-101A, Fast LWHD1006R, Friedrich US14B30A, US12B30B or US10B30A, or a Heat Controller model that lists this part number.

Will the EAE42718019 capacitor work alongside the original wiring and control board in my older Friedrich US12B30B?

Yes, it is listed as a direct fit for the US12B30B, so it connects to the existing terminals and operates with the factory control board without modification.
