Secure portable storage

The Apricorn Aegis Padlock Fortress is a 512 GB external solid state drive built for users who need hardware-encrypted data protection while travelling. It connects through a USB 3.0 interface and draws power directly from the host port.

Integrated cable and power support

The package includes an integrated USB 3.0 cable plus a Y-auxiliary USB 3.0 power cable for systems that cannot supply sufficient current on a single port. A travel pouch and quick start guide complete the bundle for immediate deployment.

USB 3.0 throughput ceiling

Sequential read and write speeds peak at 180 MB/s, which is limited by the USB 3.0 host interface rather than the internal memory. Workloads requiring sustained multi-gigabyte transfers will saturate this link quickly.

Questions about this item

Will the integrated USB 3.0 cable or the Y-auxiliary power cable need replacing after heavy daily use?

The drive ships with an integrated USB 3.0 cable and a Y-auxiliary USB 3.0 power cable; both are built for the 180 MB/s transfer rate and covered by the three-year limited warranty.

Does the 8 MB buffer become the bottleneck when writing large files continuously at 180 MB/s?

The 8 MB buffer handles burst traffic while the controller sustains 180 MB/s maximum write transfer rate, so the buffer is not the first limit under sustained loads.

How much heat or fan noise does the external solid state drive produce when running all day at 180 MB/s?

With no moving parts and a maximum transfer rate of 180 MB/s, the solid state drive generates minimal heat and operates silently during all-day use.
