Aegis Secure Key 256GB

The Apricorn Aegis Secure Key is a 256GB USB 3.0 flash drive with built-in 256-bit AES XTS hardware encryption. It is designed for users who need to transport sensitive data without relying on software-based protection. The drive requires no drivers or administrator rights to operate on a host system.

Hardware encryption in any USB port

Because encryption is handled by the drive's onboard controller, the device works with any standard USB 3.0 or 2.0 port across Windows, macOS and Linux. No background software installation is needed, freeing up system resources and removing compatibility concerns with managed IT environments. The drive draws power directly from the port.

Onboard keypad unlocks the drive

A built-in alphanumeric keypad lets users enter a PIN before the drive becomes visible to the operating system. This hardware authentication prevents keyloggers or malware from capturing credentials. The drive locks automatically when unplugged, ensuring data remains protected if the device is lost or stolen.

Questions about this item

How fast can the USB 3.0 interface move data during long transfers?

The USB 3.0 connection supports up to 5 Gbps signalling, so sustained read and write speeds will follow that ceiling.

Does the drive get hot or draw much power when the hardware AES engine runs continuously?

Hardware encryption happens inside the controller without a fan, so heat and power stay at normal flash-drive levels.

What host port and operating-system support are needed to unlock the 256-bit AES XTS volume?

Any standard USB Type-A port works; the onboard keypad handles authentication before the OS even loads.
