Mac Strategy Game

Sid Meier’s Civilization V is a downloadable turn-based strategy title published by Aspyr for macOS. It is aimed at players who want a deep empire-building experience on Mac and are comfortable activating the game through Steam. The product delivers an online game code rather than physical media.

Thermal Noise Power

As a software product, Civilization V generates no heat, produces no fan noise and draws no additional power beyond what the host Mac consumes while running the application. System thermals and acoustics remain entirely dependent on the computer hardware you already own.

Build Fit Requirements

The game requires a Mac running OS X 10.6.4 or later with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2.4 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of free disk space and a Radeon HD2600 or equivalent graphics card. It frees you from needing an optical drive and leaves all storage and expansion decisions to your existing setup. Buyers who want offline play without Steam or who need activation in blocked regions cannot use this code.

Questions about this item

How do I install the game using the Steam code, and what step do people often miss?

Redeem the code in the Steam client, then download the 8 GB installation; the step many skip is verifying the download cache before launching.

What ongoing maintenance will this download version require?

Steam will deliver automatic patches and macOS compatibility updates; no physical media upkeep is needed.

Which hardware limit appears first during long play sessions on a Mac meeting the 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo and Radeon HD2600 minimum?

The 2 GB RAM minimum tends to become the bottleneck first as late-game maps grow in size.
