ATX board for AM3+ and AM3 CPUs with AMD 970 chipset, four DDR3 slots up to 64 GB, two PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, five SATA 6Gb/s ports, 7.1 audio and gigabit LAN
This ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 board fits the AMD 970 chipset and supports Socket AM3+ processors as well as Socket AM3 Phenom II, Athlon II and Sempron CPUs, excluding the 920 and 940 models. It provides four 240-pin DDR3 slots running up to 2100 MT/s when overclocked, with a 64 GB maximum in dual-channel mode. The ATX layout includes two PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, two PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots and two legacy PCI slots for expansion.
Builders keeping a Phenom II, Athlon II or Sempron processor will find full socket compatibility and DDR3 memory support here. Five SATA 6Gb/s ports with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 plus Gigabit LAN and 7.1-channel Realtek ALC892 audio cover storage and connectivity needs. Users wanting newer CPU families, integrated graphics or integrated graphics should choose a different platform.
The four DDR3 slots accept speeds from 800 to 2100 MT/s when overclocked, but the platform caps total system memory at 64 GB. If your workload demands more capacity or newer memory standards, this board will not meet that requirement.

Yes, the board supports AM3 Phenom II X6, X4, X3 and X2 models, except the 920 and 940 variants.
The four 240-pin slots support dual-channel DDR3 up to 1600 MHz natively; higher speeds such as 1866 or 2100 require overclocking.
Five SATA 6Gb/s ports are provided and the SB950 south bridge supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 arrays.
