4U storage barebone with 36 hot-swap bays, dual SP3 sockets for EPYC 7002/7003 processors and dual 10GbE
The ASRock Rack 4U36L6E-MILAN2/2T is a 4U barebone chassis built for high-density storage workloads. It accepts two AMD EPYC 7003 or 7002 series processors in dual SP3 sockets. Sixteen DDR4 RDIMM or LRDIMM slots provide large memory capacity for database and archiving tasks. This platform targets administrators who need maximum drive count in a single rack unit.
Thirty-two hot-swap 3.5-inch bays support SATA or SAS drives, while four additional bays accept either 3.5-inch SATA/SAS or 2.5-inch NVMe drives on PCIe 3.0 x4 links. Two dedicated 2.5-inch NVMe bays also run at PCIe 3.0 x4. The 3.0 interface caps sequential bandwidth below what PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 drives can deliver. Builders who need more storage bandwidth per drive must plan around this ceiling.
A 1+1 redundant 1200 W CRPS platinum supply keeps the system running if one module fails. Dual 10 GbE RJ45 ports driven by an Intel X550-AT2 controller handle high-speed data and management traffic. Integrated IPMI provides remote monitoring and control without a local console. The 36-bay layout demands careful cable routing and airflow management in dense racks.

The chassis provides 32 hot-swap 3.5-inch SATA or SAS bays, four 3.5-inch bays that also accept 2.5-inch NVMe drives on PCIe 3.0 x4, and two dedicated 2.5-inch NVMe bays; choose based on capacity versus speed needs.
Dual 10GbE ports deliver up to 10 Gb/s each for storage traffic, while the Intel X550-AT2 controller handles TCP/IP offload to reduce CPU load during heavy I/O.
Each NVMe bay runs on a PCIe 3.0 x4 connection, capping individual drive throughput to the limits of that generation and lane width.
