This Argon ONE V5 expansion board adds a single M.2 NVME slot to a Raspberry Pi 5. It targets Pi owners who want faster boot times and larger storage capacity than a microSD card provides. The board installs inside the matching Argon ONE V5 case.

Installation Reality

The board connects to the Pi 5 through an included FPC impedance-controlled cable that must be routed carefully inside the case. Misaligned connectors or a loose cable are the most common causes of the drive not being detected on first boot.

Interface Limits

The NVME interface runs over the Pi 5's single PCIe lane, so sequential throughput tops out at the bus limit rather than the drive's rated speed. Random I/O still benefits from the NVME protocol, but sustained transfers will not saturate high-end 2280 drives.
