External Blu-ray burner with USB 3.0

The ASUS BW-16D1X-U is an external optical drive that writes BD-R discs at 16x and reads BD-ROM at 12x. It connects through a USB 3.0 interface and supports BDXL media for up to 128 GB capacity per disc. The unit is designed for users who need high-capacity archival storage on physical media.

Bundled BD Suite software and encryption

Included BD Suite software simplifies the disc-burning workflow with an intuitive interface. It adds optional encryption functionality to protect private files written to disc. The package also supplies a USB 3.0 cable, a power adapter and a power cord so the drive can operate without a separate power source.

Black enclosure with broad OS support

The drive features a black panel and ships in a retail box. It runs on Windows XP through Windows 10 (64-bit) and Mac OS X 10.6 or higher. Minimum recommended system requirements call for an Intel Pentium D 945 at 3.4 GHz with 1 GB of RAM. Builders without a USB 3.0 port or those needing internal mounting will find this model unsuitable.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.0 cable or AC power adapter need replacing after heavy daily use?

The drive ships with a USB 3.0 cable and an external power adapter; both are standard replaceable parts if they wear out.

At 16× BD-R write speed, what limit appears first during a long burn session?

Sustained 16× BD-R writing is capped by the drive’s maximum rated speed and the media’s own write strategy.

How loud and hot does the BW-16D1X-U get when burning discs continuously all day?

The external enclosure uses passive cooling; noise stays at typical optical-drive levels and the case remains warm but not hot during extended operation.
