Portable NVMe enclosure

The ASUS ROG Strix Arion ESD-S1C/BLK/G/AS is an aluminum alloy enclosure that turns an M.2 PCIe NVMe drive into a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C portable drive. It supports 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 form factors and includes thermal pads for heat dissipation.

Screwdriver-free builders vs fixed-desk users

The tool-less design and dual USB-C to C and USB-C to A cables suit anyone who swaps drives between laptops and desktops without carrying tools. Builders who need a permanent internal mount or a larger 3.5-inch bay solution should look elsewhere.

10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface

The external USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connection delivers up to 10 Gbps bandwidth, which is the single spec that determines whether your NVMe drive can reach its full transfer potential through this enclosure.

Questions about this item

Which M.2 form factors does this enclosure support?

The enclosure accepts M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 sizes.

What real-world speed can I expect from the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connection?

The interface caps at 10 Gbps, so actual throughput will be limited by that ceiling and the SSD's own performance.

Does the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port restrict the drive's PCIe NVMe bandwidth?

Yes, the 10 Gbps USB link is the bottleneck; the internal PCIe NVMe drive can run faster than the external connection allows.
