ROG Strix G16 (2023) Gaming Laptop

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2023) is a gaming laptop built around a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU with a 140W Max TGP. It runs Windows 11 Home and includes 16GB of DDR5-4800MHz memory plus a 1TB PCIe 4x4 SSD. The Eclipse Gray chassis houses a 16.0-inch FHD 165Hz panel covering 100% sRGB with Dolby Vision and a 90% screen-to-body ratio.

FHD 165Hz Panel and Connectivity Limits

The 16.0-inch display delivers a 165Hz refresh rate at FHD resolution with Adaptive-Sync support, capping the maximum frame rate the panel can show regardless of GPU output. Wireless connectivity uses Wi-Fi 6E, so peak throughput depends on access point capabilities and spectrum availability. The MUX Switch routes frames directly from the dGPU to the display for a 5-10% performance increase, while Advanced Optimus automatically toggles between iGPU and dGPU to optimise battery life based on workload.

Upgrade from Lower-Tier GPU or Older CPU

This configuration replaces laptops equipped with a lower-tier mobile GPU or an older generation processor when the workload demands higher sustained frame rates at FHD 165Hz. The jump is worth it for users who need the 140W Max TGP headroom and liquid metal CPU cooling for extended sessions. Buyers who require more than 16GB of DDR5 memory or a higher resolution panel should consider other models.

Questions about this item

Does the 16 GB of DDR5 memory leave room for an upgrade?

The laptop ships with 16 GB of DDR5-4800MHz memory. Check the service manual for the number of SODIMM slots and the maximum supported capacity before buying extra sticks.

Will the 1 TB PCIe 4x4 drive fit a second M.2 SSD?

The primary drive is a 1 TB PCIe 4x4 unit. The chassis typically includes a second M.2 slot, but confirm the slot length and keying in the manual before purchasing an additional drive.

What does the 140 W Max TGP mean for RTX 4070 performance?

The GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU runs at up to 140 W Max TGP, allowing higher sustained clocks than lower-power designs. The MUX Switch routes frames directly to the 165 Hz panel for a 5-10 % gain in games.
