18-inch WUXGA 144Hz gaming laptop

The ASUS ROG Strix G18 G814PH is an 18-inch gaming laptop built around a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA IPS-level panel running at 144 Hz. It targets enthusiasts who want a large, high-refresh display paired with desktop-class processing power in a portable chassis.

Ryzen 9 8940HX 16-core processor limits

The AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX delivers 16 cores and 32 threads with a 2.4 GHz base clock and a 5.2 GHz max turbo frequency. Its 64 MB L3 cache feeds multi-threaded workloads, while the mobile power envelope defines the practical ceiling for sustained all-core performance.

32 GB DDR5 and 4 TB NVMe headroom

Installed memory is 32 GB of DDR5 5600 MHz in dual-channel configuration, giving comfortable headroom for current titles and heavy multitasking. The 4 TB PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe array (2 x 2 TB) provides vast, fast storage; capacity runs out only with extremely large game libraries or professional media archives.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 32 GB DDR5 5600MHz dual-channel kit or look for a larger capacity?

The laptop ships with 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5 5600MHz in dual-channel mode, which handles modern games and heavy multitasking without bottlenecking the Ryzen 9 8940HX.

What does the Ryzen 9 8940HX 5.2 GHz max turbo actually deliver in daily gaming?

The 16-core (8P+8E) processor sustains high clocks across all cores, so frame rates stay consistent in CPU-bound titles while background tasks run on the efficiency cores.

How fast is the 4 TB PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe storage in real loads?

The dual 2 TB M.2 drives run at PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe speeds, cutting game load times and Windows boot to seconds while feeding the RTX 5050 without I/O stalls.
