18-inch 240 Hz WQXGA gaming laptop

The ASUS ROG Strix G18 pairs an 18.0" 2560x1600 panel at 240 Hz with a Ryzen 9 8940HX reaching 5.3 GHz and an RTX 5070 with 8 GB GDDR7. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR5 SO-DIMM memory and an 8 TB PCIe NVMe SSD complete a platform built for high-refresh competitive play and content creation. Windows 11 Home ships pre-installed.

RGB keyboard WiFi 6E Bluetooth 5.4 bundle

A per-key RGB keyboard, 802.11ax WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, an RJ-45 port, HDMI output and a combo audio jack are integrated. A 720p webcam sits above the display. The 280 W power adapter charges the 4-cell 90 Wh battery. Velztorm opens the factory box to install the memory and storage upgrades before final testing.

HDMI 2.1 VRR practical limits

The HDMI port can drive an external display at the panel's native 2560x1600 resolution and high refresh rates, but total bandwidth depends on the connected monitor's scaler and cable quality. The 802.11ax wireless link tops out at the router's supported channel width and spatial streams. PCIe storage performance scales with the controller's generation and thermal headroom inside the chassis.

Questions about this item

Can the DDR5 SO-DIMM memory be upgraded later?

The laptop uses DDR5 SO-DIMM modules totalling 32GB; additional slots may allow expansion but the maximum supported capacity is not confirmed in the specifications.

Which component hits its thermal limit first during long gaming sessions?

The Ryzen 9 8940HX can boost to 5.3 GHz and the RTX 5070 draws significant power, so the shared cooling solution will likely throttle the CPU or GPU first under sustained load.

How loud do the fans get and how hot does the chassis feel when running all day?

A 280 W power adapter and 90 Whr battery indicate high sustained power draw; expect noticeable fan noise and warm surface temperatures during extended heavy use.
