18-inch 240 Hz WQXGA gaming laptop

This ASUS ROG Strix G18 pairs an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8 GB GDDR7 GPU. The 18.0-inch display runs at 2560x1600 resolution and 240 Hz refresh rate. It ships with 16 GB DDR5 SO-DIMM memory and an 8 TB PCIe NVMe SSD. Windows 11 Home is pre-installed.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

The 16-core, 32-thread CPU at up to 5.3 GHz and dedicated RTX 5070 graphics target gamers and creators who need high frame rates on a large, fast panel. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a smaller chassis or user-upgradable memory should consider other models. The 4-cell 90 Whr battery and 280 W power supply are built for stationary play rather than all-day mobility.

The spec that decides fit

The single 16 GB DDR5 SO-DIMM module fills one slot and cannot be expanded without replacing the stick. If your workload demands 32 GB or more, this configuration will require an immediate memory swap. Otherwise the 8 TB PCIe SSD and 240 Hz WQXGA screen deliver the capacity and speed the platform promises.

Questions about this item

Will the 240 Hz WQXGA panel still drive my older 60 Hz external monitor over the HDMI port?

The HDMI output can drive an external 60 Hz display while the built-in 18 inch 2560x1600 240 Hz panel runs at its native rate.

How can I confirm the RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 GPU is active after Windows 11 Home boots?

Open Device Manager or the NVIDIA control panel and verify the RTX 5070 appears as the dedicated GPU with 8 GB GDDR7 memory.

Does the box include a 280 W power supply and are any storage upgrades needed for the 8 TB PCIe NVMe SSD?

The 280 W PSU is included; the 8 TB PCIe NVMe SSD is already installed so no extra storage purchase is required.
