18-inch 240Hz gaming laptop

The ASUS ROG Strix G815LP-IS96 pairs an 18.0-inch IPS WQXGA panel running at 240 Hz with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 graphics. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR5 SO-DIMM memory and an 8TB PCIe NVMe SSD provide capacity for large game libraries and creative workloads. Windows 11 Home ships pre-installed on the Gray chassis.

Thermals and acoustics at idle

A 280W power supply feeds the system while a 4-cell 90 WHr battery handles mobile use. Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Type-C, HDMI and RJ-45 ports share the left and right edges alongside a headphone/microphone combo jack. WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 manage wireless traffic without extra antennas. The RGB keyboard remains lit at low brightness during light desktop tasks.

Behaviour during extended sessions

The 24-core, 24-thread CPU can reach 5.4 GHz turbo frequency while the 36MB L3 cache keeps data close to the execution units. Sustained gaming or rendering loads draw continuous power from the 280W adapter rather than the battery. The 2560x1600 16:10 display maintains its 240 Hz refresh without throttling the GPU memory interface. Fan curves ramp gradually to balance temperature against acoustic output.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 8TB PCIe SSD upgrade and what step is often missed?

The laptop ships with the 8TB PCIe SSD already installed by the technician; no user installation is required, but the step often missed is confirming the drive appears in Windows Disk Management with the full 8TB capacity before use.

What maintenance will the 90 WHr battery need later?

The 4-cell 90 WHr battery is not user-replaceable; plan for professional service when runtime drops below your needs, and avoid storing the system at full charge for long periods to slow capacity loss.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Ultra 9-275HX?

The 280W power adapter caps total system draw, so under prolonged CPU and RTX 5070 load the chassis hits its thermal and power envelope before the processor reaches its 5.4GHz turbo ceiling.
