Compact 7-inch 120 Hz gaming handheld

The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X RC73XA is a Windows 11 Pro handheld built around an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme 8-core processor with integrated Radeon graphics. It targets players who want full PC game compatibility in a 1.58 lb device that fits in a small bag. The 7-inch FHD touchscreen runs at 120 Hz for responsive input.

On-board memory and Gen4 NVMe storage

The system ships with 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory soldered to the board and an 8 TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD installed by the builder. No memory slots or drive bays are available for later expansion, so the configuration is fixed at purchase. A USB-C port supports external peripherals or docks.

Sustained performance

Gelid GC Extreme thermal compound replaces the stock paste on the CPU and GPU to lower steady-state temperatures during long sessions. The 5.0 GHz maximum turbo frequency can be held longer before thermal limits throttle the 8-core 16-thread chip. Fan behaviour scales with load to balance noise and surface temperature.

Questions about this item

Will the 7-inch 120 Hz touchscreen fit in a standard small laptop sleeve?

The chassis measures 11.42 by 4.76 by 1.08 inches and weighs 1.58 lbs, so most 7-inch tablet or compact ultraportable sleeves will accommodate it.

Can the 8 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive be expanded later?

The unit ships with a single M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD; any further expansion depends on whether the mainboard has a second M.2 slot, which is not detailed in the specification.

Does the 24 GB LPDDR5X memory allow smooth multitasking with modern AAA titles?

The 24 GB on-board LPDDR5X (2 x 12 GB) combined with the 8-core Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme at up to 5.0 GHz provides ample headroom for current games and background apps.
