Thin 15.6 144Hz Gaming Notebook

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501G packs an Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics with 8GB video memory into a chassis measuring 16.9 to 17.9 mm thick. It runs Windows 10 Pro on 8GB DDR4 memory at 2400 speed and a 256GB NVMe SSD. The 15.6 inch IPS panel delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution at 144Hz with G-Sync support.

Best for Portable High Refresh Gaming

Buyers who want desktop-class frame rates on a 144Hz G-Sync screen in a slim form factor will match this hardware. The 6-core CPU at 2.2 GHz base and 4.1 GHz turbo handles modern titles and multitasking. Users needing more than 8GB system memory, larger primary storage, a higher resolution panel, or newer GPU architecture should consider other models.

Deciding Spec 144Hz G-Sync Display

The 15.6 inch FHD IPS panel running at 144Hz with G-Sync is the single specification that determines suitability. It synchronises refresh rate to the GTX 1080 output for tear-free motion in fast-paced games. If the target use does not require variable refresh at this speed, a different display configuration would be more appropriate.

Questions about this item

Will the 8GB of DDR4 memory be enough for modern games or should I plan an upgrade?

The laptop ships with 8GB of DDR4 at 2400 speed; many current titles run fine at that capacity but heavy multitasking or future releases may benefit from more memory if the board allows expansion.

Does the 15.6 inch 144Hz IPS panel support G-Sync and what is the response time?

Yes, the FHD 1920 x 1080 display includes G-Sync and a 3ms response time for smooth tear-free gaming at 144Hz.

How thick is the chassis and will it fit in a standard 15 inch laptop sleeve?

The body measures between 16.9 and 17.9 mm thick, so it should slide into most sleeves designed for 15.6 inch notebooks.
