HDMI Repeater with Audio Extraction

The ATEN VC880 repeats an HDMI signal up to 15 meters while extracting the embedded audio for separate routing. It accepts one HDMI input and provides one HDMI output plus optical, coaxial and analog stereo outputs. The unit suits installers who need to extend a 1080p source to a distant display and feed audio to a receiver or speakers. It is not for users who require 4K resolution or HDR pass-through.

Signal Extension Behaviour

The repeater maintains Full HD 1080p and 3D video quality over the full 15 metre distance using 24 AWG cable. Cascading up to three units extends the path further without signal regeneration hardware. HDCP 1.1 compliance ensures protected content passes through each stage. The device does not amplify or equalise beyond the specified range, so longer runs need active fibre or CAT extenders.

Audio Output Flexibility

The extracted audio can be routed through TOSLINK optical, RCA coaxial or dual RCA analog connectors, selectable for 2.0 or 5.1 channel formats. This lets integrators match legacy stereo zones or modern surround processors without extra converters. Buyers who need multi-zone matrix switching or Dante network audio will need a different architecture.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the VC880 produce when running continuously?

The unit has no fan and draws power only from the supplied DC adapter, so it runs silently and stays cool during all-day operation.

Which cables and power source do I need to have on hand before connecting the VC880?

You need two HDMI cables — one for the source, one for the display — plus the audio cable matching your chosen output (TOSLINK, coaxial RCA or stereo RCA) and a nearby mains socket for the included DC power adapter.

Will the VC880 pass 1080p and 5.1 audio from my older HDMI 1.3a source and HDCP 1.1 display without downgrading the signal?

Yes, the repeater is HDMI 1.3a and HDCP 1.1 compliant, repeats 1080p video up to 15 metres and can output 5.1 channels through its TOSLINK or coaxial ports while keeping the original HDMI video path intact.
