Scale & Subject

The Atlantis Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket is a 1:54 scale model kit measuring 11 inches long with a 5.5-inch wingspan. It replicates the historic aircraft that first reached Mach 2, now displayed at the National Air and Space Museum.

Ideal For

This kit suits hobbyists and students interested in aviation history who want a manageable build of 24 parts. It is not for modellers seeking complex assemblies, detailed engine or cockpit interiors, or larger-scale display pieces.

Build Notes

Skill level 2 makes it an easy builder with parts molded in white and clear, plus colorful decals and a swivel display base included. Alignment of the small wing and tail sections can be tricky, so test-fit before applying cement.

Questions about this item

What glue and paint do I need to assemble the 24 parts?

The kit is moulded in white and clear plastic, so you supply plastic cement and the paint colours of your choice.

Can the finished 11-inch model share a display base with other aircraft?

A swivel display base is included with this kit; other models would need their own base or a compatible stand.

How do I verify the completed model matches the 1:54 scale specification?
