5-mile range claim

The supplier rates the portable unit for up to 5-mile line-of-sight coverage using a 4/5 W UHF transmitter measured to TIA/EIA-603. Real-world distance will vary with terrain, obstacles and antenna height, so buyers needing guaranteed coverage beyond visual range should plan accordingly.

Keypad programming and scanning

On-board name memory lets each channel store an alphanumeric label and the radio switches between name and frequency display modes. A built-in channel scanner, busy-channel lockout, transmit-time limiter and low-battery alarm complete the feature set without extra accessories.

Questions about this item

What does the 5-mile range claim mean once the radio is in actual use?

The 5-mile figure is a maximum under ideal conditions; real-world distance will be less due to terrain, buildings and interference.

What does the UHF band and 5-watt output cap in practice?

UHF signals penetrate walls better than VHF, and the 5-watt transmitter is the FCC limit for this class, so range is limited by that power ceiling.

What does the radio physically need to fit or mount?

The unit measures 3.62 by 2.09 by 1.18 inches and includes a belt clip, so it fits in a hand or on a standard belt.
