What this cable does and who needs it

This USB 3.2 Type C to C cable delivers 40 Gbps data transfer, up to 240 W power delivery and 8K 60 Hz video output in a single 5 ft run. It suits creators and professionals who move large media files between laptops, docks and high-resolution monitors while fast-charging power-hungry notebooks.

Capacity and headroom

At 40 Gbps the link moves a 2.5 G file in about one second; real-world reads reach 2.8 GB/s and writes 2.1 GB/s. The 48 V 5 A PD 3.1 charge path tops out at 240 W, so it handles today’s gaming laptops and leaves headroom for future devices. Dual 4K 144 Hz or single 8K 60 Hz streams are supported, but dual monitors require two cables.

The deciding specification

Thunderbolt 3 and 4 compatibility is the single spec that determines fit: if your host and peripheral both carry Thunderbolt 3 or 4 ports you get the full 40 Gbps, 240 W and 8K feature set; on USB 3.2 or 2.0 ports the cable falls back to the lower speeds and power limits of those standards.

Questions about this item

Will the 40Gbps cable work with my older Thunderbolt 3 dock and laptop?

Yes, the cable is fully backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3 devices and USB 3.2, so it will function correctly with your existing dock and laptop at their supported speeds.

How can I verify the cable is delivering the full 240W charging rate after I connect it?

Check the power reading on your laptop or charger display; it should show up to 48V/5A when both the charger and device support PD 3.1 and the highest power profile.

Does the 5FT cable include a power adapter or do I need to buy one separately?

Only the USB-C to USB-C cable is included; a compatible USB PD 3.1 charger capable of 240W output must be purchased separately to reach the maximum power rating.
