VM95C cartridge with 0.6 mil conical stylus

The Audio-Technica AT-VM95C is a dual moving magnet cartridge designed for half-inch mount turntables. Its 0.6 mil conical stylus and aluminium cantilever track standard grooves reliably. A 4.0 mV output level reduces the gain required from the phono stage. Buyers needing finer groove retrieval for elliptical or microline profiles should choose a different VM95 model.

Moving magnet output and tracking constraints

The cartridge produces 4.0 mV at 1 kHz into the recommended 47,000 ohm load with 3.3 k ohm coil impedance. Vertical tracking force ranges from 1.8 to 2.2 g with a 2.0 g standard setting and a 23 degree vertical tracking angle. Channel separation is rated at 18 dB and frequency response spans 20 to 20,000 Hz. Systems requiring lower capacitance loading or higher compliance may not match these electrical characteristics.

Two-screw mounting and stylus interchangeability

Threaded inserts in the polymer housing allow direct mounting with the supplied 11 mm and 8 mm screws plus washers, eliminating separate nuts. All VM95 bodies share the same geometry so the stylus can be swapped for any of the six AT-VMN95 replacement types. Tonearms without adjustable VTA or azimuth may limit precise alignment of the 23 degree tracking angle.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the AT-VM95C or another VM95 model for my half-inch mount turntable?

The AT-VM95C uses a 0.6 mil conical stylus and delivers 4.0 mV output. Other VM95 models offer elliptical, microlinear or Shibata styli for different tracking and tonal preferences.

What does the 4.0 mV output mean when I connect this cartridge to my phono stage?

At 4.0 mV the cartridge provides a strong signal for a moving magnet design, so most phono preamps will not need extra gain. Channel separation is 18 dB at 1 kHz.

Does the half-inch mount and 47,000 ohm load impedance limit which turntables or preamps I can use?

The cartridge fits standard half-inch mount headshells using the included 11 mm and 8 mm screws. Its recommended load is 47,000 ohms, matching virtually all MM phono inputs.
