Purpose and user

The Audio-Technica AT831CW is a miniature cardioid condenser lavalier microphone designed for voice and acoustic guitar pickup. It connects to UniPak wireless transmitters or Shure wireless systems via a TA4F-type connector. The mic suits presenters, performers and installers who need a discreet clip-on solution with strong gain before feedback. It is not for users who require a stand-mounted or handheld microphone form factor.

Deciding specification

The capsule operates on phantom power only and delivers a wide frequency response with crisp, full-sounding reproduction. Excellent gain before feedback and background-noise suppression make it reliable in higher SPL environments. The 55 inch (1.4 m) cable ends in a TA4F-type connector for direct compatibility with Shure wireless bodypacks. Buyers whose transmitters supply only bias voltage or use a different connector cannot use this microphone.

Sustained behaviour

Under continuous use the condenser element maintains consistent output without distortion at elevated sound-pressure levels. The cardioid pattern continues to reject off-axis noise, preserving clarity during long speeches or performances. RoHS-compliant construction avoids hazardous substances throughout the product life. The included clothing clip and windscreen stay secure and effective over extended sessions.

Questions about this item

How does the cardioid condenser capsule perform when clipped to a speaker or an acoustic guitar?

The cardioid pattern focuses on sound directly in front of the capsule, giving clear voice or guitar pickup while rejecting noise from the sides and rear.

What does the TA4F connector allow me to plug into?

The TA4F connector mates with Shure UniPak wireless transmitters, locking securely for reliable signal transfer.

How much cable length do I have to route from the mic to a belt-pack transmitter?

The attached cable measures 55 inches (1.4 m), giving enough slack to run discreetly under clothing to a belt-worn pack.
