Capture capability
The AVerMedia Live Gamer Bolt is a Thunderbolt 3 external capture device built for creators who need uncompressed 4K60 HDR10 or 1080p240 recording. It connects to native Thunderbolt 3 ports on Windows 10, Windows 11 or macOS 10.15 systems and works with RECentral 4, OBS, Streamlabs and XSplit. It is not compatible with Apple Silicon M1 or M2 platforms.
Thermals and power
The compact enclosure draws power directly from the Thunderbolt 3 bus so no external adapter is required. Passive cooling keeps the unit silent during typical streaming sessions while the sub-50ms latency ensures responsive monitoring. The 7.1 surround sound passthrough operates without adding audible noise or thermal load.
Sustained load behaviour
During extended captures at 4K60 HDR or 1080p240 the Thunderbolt 3 link maintains stable bandwidth for uncompressed frames. Mac systems need a 2018 or 2019 Intel Core i7 with Radeon Pro 555X or 560X graphics and 16GB DDR4 2400 memory to sustain these rates. HDR recording is not supported on macOS.

Questions about this item
How do I install the Live Gamer Bolt on a Mac with a Thunderbolt 3 port and why might it not appear in OBS?
Connect the unit to a native Thunderbolt 3 port using the Thunderbolt 3 cable; install RECentral 4, grant screen-recording permission in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, then select the device in OBS. It will not work on Apple Silicon (M1/M2) Macs even if the port looks identical.
What ongoing maintenance does the Live Gamer Bolt require and which parts will need replacement?
No internal fan or user-serviceable parts exist; keep the Thunderbolt 3 cable and connectors free of dust, and update RECentral 4 or your streaming software when new macOS or Windows versions arrive. The only replaceable item is the cable itself if it becomes damaged.
What is the first limit reached during long 4K60 HDR capture sessions on a 2019 iMac with a 3.2 GHz 6-core i7 and Radeon Pro 555X?
The 50 ms latency floor and the host Mac's ability to write uncompressed 4K60 frames to storage become the bottleneck; sustained captures can fill an SSD quickly and thermal throttling on the iMac may drop frames before the capture card itself does.
