18-well folding palette for travelling artists

The Avery RD-22Z folds to 10.6 x 5.2 in and opens to 10.6 x 10.4 in, offering 18 slanted wells with rounded edges plus two integrated mixing areas. A thumbhole on the side gives a secure grip while you work standing or seated. It suits watercolour, gouache or acrylic painters who need a compact studio on the move.

Silicon-seal lid and removable tray extend usable

The lid uses a silicon seal that keeps pigment fresh between sessions, though the hinge is not watertight so the box must not be used to transport liquid. A large removable mixing tray slides out for extra blending space and can be rinsed separately under running water. The thick plastic construction resists cracking during repeated folding.

21 compartments handle a 12-colour set

Eighteen wells hold a standard 12-colour range and leave six wells free for custom mixes or extra tubes. Two fixed mixing areas plus the removable tray give three distinct blending zones so wet washes stay separate. Painters who regularly carry more than 18 colours or need a completely leak-proof seal for air travel will find the capacity or hinge limitation restrictive.

Questions about this item

Will the 18 wells and removable tray need replacing after heavy use?

The palette is made from extra-thick plastic designed to last for many years, and the removable tray can be rinsed clean under running water.

What limits how long paint stays workable in the 18 wells during a full-day session?

The silicone-seal cover keeps paints fresh while you are away, but the hinge is not completely watertight so evaporation will eventually dry the wells.

Does the folding 10.6 x 5.2 in case get hot or noisy when left open all day?

The palette has no electronics, fans or heating elements, so it produces no noise or heat during use.
